General Information
Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) operates several gates around the campus. The intent of the gate arms is to restrict private vehicle access to the service areas of the campus. Too many students find these access routes convenient to drop off or pick up passengers, or to leave their vehicles parked illegally in order to perform a “quick” errand. As a result, legitimate service vehicles and emergency response vehicles could not respond promptly to campus needs.
FAQs Regarding Gate Arms
How will service and other authorized vehicles open the gate arm?
Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) will issue access cards to authorized service providers. Please contact Andrew Stewart at andrew.stewart@ucr.edu if your department requires access past a gate arm.
What if I need to make a delivery or pickup from my office?
You can call the Motorist Assistance phone line at (951) 827-4133. Your call will be answered by parking staff. Please provide your name and the nature of your errand, and the number of your parking permit.
Will more gates be installed on campus roads?
As the campus grows, more gates may be installed to mitigate campus traffic. In 2008, an additional gate was added at the Alumni and Visitors Center. Additional Bollards continue to be added to other entrances to the campus core that are restricted to Fire Department use only. Additional locations will be considered in the future.
